The Mobile Dental Clinic Returns to Mildmay

Interior of the mobile dental unit - a fully kitted-out dental surgery

Mildmay Hospital once again welcomed the Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust’s mobile dental unit yesterday.

The service continues to bring essential dental care directly to our patients, many of whom face significant challenges such as homelessness and substance misuse. Dental care is crucial for overall health as it prevents tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health problems, which can lead to complications like heart disease, diabetes, and pneumonia, and also impacts eating, speaking, and self-esteem.

The mobile dental unit serves as a lifeline, offering treatments like cleanings, fillings, dentures, and extractions to those who might otherwise have difficulty accessing care.

The Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust van and its dedicated dental team - comprising a dentist, dental assistant, admin assistant, and driver - operates a rolling rota across various London boroughs, including Tower Hamlets, working closely with homeless services, day centres, and missions.

We’re really grateful for the mobile dental team’s dedication and expertise. Their work improves the oral health and overall well-being of our patients, directly contributing to their quality of life. Accessible dental care doesn’t just meet immediate needs; it also enhances self-esteem and long-term health outcomes.
