Remembrance Sunday 2024: Honouring Service, Sacrifice, and Resilience

Red poppies in a field, with the sentence 'Lest we forget, overlaid.

On this Remembrance Sunday, we join together across faiths, cultures, and backgrounds to honour the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces and their families, both from Britain and the Commonwealth. We also recognise the vital role played by the emergency services, who courageously face danger in times of conflict and crisis.

But remembrance extends beyond those who served on the front lines. It is a day to reflect on the countless lives affected by war and violence - civilians caught in the crossfire, families left grieving, and communities forever changed. We remember those who have lost their lives as a result of conflict or terrorism, and we pay tribute to the resilience of all those who continue to live with the consequences of such tragedies.

At Mildmay, we are reminded daily of the importance of care, compassion, and support for the vulnerable in our society. In the same spirit, Remembrance Sunday encourages us to reflect on how we can contribute to a more peaceful, just world. As we pause to remember those who gave so much, let us also consider the responsibility we share in supporting peace and unity.

This year, as we observe the two-minute silence, we reflect on the enduring legacy of those who served and sacrificed and renew our commitment to building a future where the values of peace, tolerance, and compassion prevail.
