Mildmay extends its deepest sympathies to the staff of Joy Health Centre and Hospice, Dr. Jan White, and all those affected by the current outbreak of viral hemorrhagic fever disease (belonging to the same family as Ebola virus disease)* in Uganda.
We are closely monitoring the situation, particularly in Mbale, where healthcare workers and local communities have been impacted by this serious health threat.
In January of this year, our CEO, Geoff Coleman, visited Joy Health Centre and Hospice in Mbale to meet with their team and begin discussions on future partnerships aimed at building a new healthcare facility.
Mildmay has not yet made any formal public announcements about our planned collaboration with Joy Hospice, but we are deeply concerned about the challenges currently facing healthcare providers in the region. Our thoughts are with those on the front lines working tirelessly to contain the outbreak, as well as with the people at risk from this virus.
Although the outbreak has presented new difficulties, we remain committed to our long-term vision of supporting healthcare development in Uganda, and our project planning continues with the future in mind.
