We're thrilled to announce that Lazarus from our Estates and Facilities Team is the well-deserved winner of the February/March MVP Award!
“For his outstanding dedication, hard work, and exceptional contributions!”
“Your commitment and passion continue to inspire the entire team.”
“Thank you for going above and beyond to make a difference. Keep shining!”
Lazarus was nominated and voted for by his colleagues, a testament to his outstanding dedication, hard work, and exceptional contributions to Mildmay Hospital. His nominators consistently highlighted his commitment and passion, noting how he frequently goes above and beyond to ensure the smooth running of our vital services.
The Estates and Facilities Team is the backbone of Mildmay, ensuring that our hospital is a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for patients and staff alike. This dedicated team is responsible for a huge range of essential services, including:
Property management, ensuring our buildings are well-maintained and compliant.
Capital projects, overseeing the development and improvement of our facilities.
Engineering and maintenance, keeping all our systems running smoothly, from heating and lighting to medical equipment.
Environmental sustainability, working to reduce our environmental impact.
Safety and security, ensuring the well-being of everyone on our premises.
Catering and cleaning, providing essential support services for patients and staff.
Lazarus embodies the spirit of teamwork and dedication that makes Mildmay so special. His role is diverse and key; tackling everything from routine maintenance to unexpected repairs with a positive attitude and a can-do approach.
Just last week, Lazarus and the team undertook specialised ‘working at heights’ training at the Castle Climbing Centre in Stoke Newington. This training will certify them to safely work on the hospital's innovative green roofs, which feature sedum plants. This is just one example of the team's commitment to maintaining and improving our facilities sustainably.
Lazarus, your hard work often goes unseen, but it is deeply appreciated. Thank you for everything you do to keep Mildmay running!
We’d also like to extend our congratulations to all the nominees who were recognised by their peers for their fantastic contributions to patient care at Mildmay.
Incidentally, we also want to acknowledge Dr. Divyan, our MVP Winner for December/January. He has been away for work and is currently on leave, so he hasn’t yet been able to collect his award from Geoff, our CEO. We look forward to celebrating his achievements when he returns.
Mildmay’s Monthly MVP Awards
The MVP Awards at Mildmay Hospital were created by one of our former physiotherapists, Josh Pedro. Recognising the need for an additional layer of appreciation beyond the annual staff awards presented by our Trustees, Josh wanted to celebrate our resilient and hardworking staff in a fun and engaging way. Though Josh has since moved on to new endeavours, his colleague Asterios has valiantly taken up the mantle of organising the awards.
Aim
The MVP Award is designed to highlight the remarkable contributions that our staff make daily - often unnoticed. By shining a light on these moments, we bring regular goodwill and recognition into the workplace, ensuring that our team receives the appreciation they truly deserve.
Description
The Mildmay MVP Award is a bi-monthly, staff-led initiative where all employees—across clinical, non-clinical, and support roles—can nominate and vote for their peers. From life-saving interventions to small gestures that brighten someone’s day, every contribution is valued. There’s no hierarchy, and every team member is eligible.
In response to feedback, we’ve shifted to bi-monthly awards, making each one a bit rarer and therefore even more special. After nominations are collected, staff vote in an open online poll, with all nominees publicly recognised.
Prize
Winners receive a gift voucher for a store of their choosing, a token of appreciation for their dedication.
What is an MVP?
In sports and social media, MVP stands for “Most Valuable Player”—someone whose contributions stand out above the rest. At Mildmay, it represents our most outstanding team member, chosen not by management but by their peers, recognising their invaluable contributions to the team.
