Linda Robson has been a great supporter of Mildmay and Patron of the charity since January 2016 and has joined Mildmay across a variety of events bringing her own special magic, warmth and caring. This year Linda will once again be reading at Mildmay’s annual Carol Concert, probably the most Christmassy event of the year!
We thought we’d ask Linda a few questions to find out why Mildmay matters and why this event is such an important hi-light of her year.
Why did you decide to become a Patron of Mildmay?
There is so much work still to do around raising HIV awareness especially late diagnosis. I know a lot of people think HIV is no longer a problem, but 43% of people diagnosed with HIV in the UK are diagnosed late. At Mildmay Hospital they see some of the devastating health consequences that a late HIV diagnosis can cause. Many people have never heard of HIV related brain injury, but this is Mildmay’s specialism. When I visited the hospital and the patients, I saw first-hand some of the amazing work they do to transform lives back to health and independence. If my presence at their Carol Concert can help Mildmay to raise awareness and some of the money they need to continue to provide the services they do, I am more than happy to do that. Plus on top of that,it’s a lovely evening!
As well as your own performance the event also boasts appearances from Stephanie Beacham, Richard Arnold, Robert Powell, The Flicks and Classical Reflection -what do you most look forward to?
I look forward to the patients performing, it’s very moving and they really do enjoy themselves. There’s something very lovely about this evening and bringing in Christmas with Mildmay!
At Mildmay there is always gifts alongside a special Christmas dinner cooked for the patients. What is your best bit of Christmas Day?
My favourite part of Christmas has to be watching my granddaughters faces on Christmas morning. It’s just magical.
Finally if you could choose just one gift for Christmas what would it be.
My one wish for Christmas is for there to be health and happiness for us all around the world.
Much love to all this Christmas, Linda
